The Voice fans slam the show after Guy Sebastian pretended he doesn’t know contestant Jay Sierra – despite being a judge when he WON The X Factor with his boyband The Collective

The Voice Australia fans were up in arms when they spotted a familiar face auditioning for the show on Tuesday.

Sydney singer Jay Sierra, 27, discussed his time performing in the Cirque du Soleil circus troupe, but he didn’t mention his talent show history – and neither did anyone on The Voice.

Jay, then known as Jayden Sierra, won The X Factor Australia in 2012 as a member of the boyband, The Collective.

Guy Sebastian, who is a mentor on The Voice, was also a judge on The X Factor at the time, and knowns Jay well.

However there was no mention of the connection, or Jay’s earlier contest success, nor his having been signed to a record deal with Sony Music Australia in the past.

Jay has even had chart success – The Collective’s debut single Surrender debuted at number six on the ARIA Singles Chart, and their first album debuted at number 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart, before they disbanded in 2015.

Mentors Guy, Keith Urban and Rita Ora all turned their chairs for Jay.

Coach Jess Mauboy asked him ‘where have you been?’ as if Jay was a new face in the industry, while Guy called him a ‘potential winner’ of The Voice – without acknowledging that they had met.

Jay picked Keith as his coach after the country singer used the ‘block’ option to stop Guy and Jay working together.

Fans were baffled by the whole thing, with many posting their thoughts to Twitter.

‘Wait back to Jay, wasn’t guy a judge on the season he was in? ahaha the fact that they are acting like they’ve never met,’ one wrote.

‘So Jay was in The Collective but it wasn’t mentioned, don’t see that’s fair when he was also on X factor’ another said.

‘I love that they didn’t mention Guy was a judge the year Jay was on X Factor’ someone else chimed in.

‘Way to leave out the fact that you were in The Collective, Jay, the boyband who won The X Factor about a decade or so back…’ one more complained.

‘Jay was on the X factor and was in The Collective formed on the show and was signed to a record deal. He should not be allowed on this show. Do a season of ex signed people if you wanna allow this’ someone else added.
