Emma Corrin was a far departure from her Crown days with pastel pink hair and a baggy red outfit while filming for new series Retreat in New York on Wednesday.

The star, 26, who gained popularity after playing Princess Diana in season four of the hit Netflix show, will now star in FX’s upcoming murder mystery.

She will portray Darby Hart, a Gen Z sleuth who takes on the role of makeshift detective as a guest at a retreat is found dead.

Emma’s character – pictured in a slouchy hoodie and headphones around the neck – will rush to solve the crime before the killer strikes again, Deadline reports.

The outlet added that the series comes from The OA creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij.

New snaps show Emma, surrounded by books in moody, elusive lighting as the character Darby sits at a desk.

A release date has yet to be confirmed.

The star was recently spotted at the Met Gala in New York, rocking an androgynous look in a dramatic top hat, paired with a clashing print waistcoat.

Emma’s dress featured a structured black body and a tweed blazer detail, teamed with white woollen tights.

The ensemble was completed with pointed black shoes as the performer sported a minimal palette of make-up.

It comes after Emma recently discussed coming out as queer in an ITV interview.

She said: ‘My journey has been a long one and has still got a long way to go. I think we are so used to defining ourselves…

‘That’s the way society works within these binaries and it’s taken me a long time to realise that I exist somewhere in between and I’m still not sure where that is yet…’

In a New York Times article last year, Emma also discussed identifying as nonbinary and lists using she/they pronouns on Instagram.

Last year the star was pictured shooting for LGBT period drama My Policeman with Harry Styles, 27.

The pair play husband and wife, as Harry’s character Tom Burgess continues a long-term affair with another man, toppled by societal pressures across the decades.

The movie is set in 1950s Brighton and is based on Bethan Roberts’ novel of the same name, focusing on police officer Tom, who is gay, but married to Marion (Emma).

It follows Harry’s character as he goes on to have a decades-long affair with museum curator Patrick Hazelwood, played by David Dawson.
