‘Take the vaccines!’ Donald Trump booed at Save America rally in Alabama over Covid jabs

The ex-President, 75, was booed at his rally in Alabama on Saturday after he implored his supporters to get inoculated. The predominantly maskless crowd gathered in the staunchly Republican town of Cullman in the so-called Yellowhammer State.

Thousands came to see Donald Trump talk about how his successor, President Joe Biden, has responded to COVID-19 and Afghanistan.

But the 45th President came under fire from his own supporters when he decided to implore them to get jabbed.

Trump said: “And you know what? I believe totally in your freedoms. I do. You’ve got to do what you have to do. But, I recommend: take the vaccines. I did it. It’s good. Take the vaccines.”

After a chorus of boos rang out around the ground, the ex-POTUS said: “No, that’s okay. That’s all right. You got your freedoms. But I happen to take the vaccine. If it doesn’t work, you’ll be the first to know. Okay? I’ll call up Alabama, I’ll say, hey, you know what? But [the vaccine] is working.”

In the United Kingdom there seems to be little evidence that political leanings influence likelihood to get vaccinated.

In March, at the height of the UK’s vaccine roll-out, 90 percent of Conservative voters said they had or would get jabbed, with almost half already getting vaccinated.

Amongst Labour voters the figure also stood at 90 percent.

However, on the other side of the Atlantic, polling suggests supporters of the Grand Old Party are less likely than their Democratic compatriots to get inoculated.

In contrast, over half of residents in the true blue state of California have been vaccinated.

However, Donald Trump is not the only Republican official to voice support for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Alabama Governor, Kay Ivey, has joined the former President in calling for Americans to get jabbed.

She said: “It’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.”

During his Save America rally, the ex-POTUS blasted Biden on his record in Afghanistan.

“This will go down as one of the greatest military defeats of all time,” he said.

Trump added: “The issue here is not whether to leave Afghanistan, the issue is Joe Biden’s staggering incompetence and gross negligence.”

Later he said: “Vietnam looks like a masterclass in strategy compared to Joe Biden’s catastrophe.”

Trump then suggested President Biden should have left US soldiers in Afghanistan while removing American citizens and weapons before “bombing the hell out of the bases” that would be left behind.

Despite the boos about the COVID-19 vaccine, the rally appeared similar to those held by the Trump team in the 2020 US Presidential Election campaign.

In almost total election-mode, the 45th President told his upbeat supporters: “We will make America safe again and you know what it is we will make America great again!”
