A staffer at an Illinois high school who was caught in a viral video calling a student “a piece of s–t” over improperly wearing a mask has resigned.

A statement from the Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream to Fox News Friday said that the unidentified staff member would no longer be working there, or in the school district.

Video of the incident, which shows the adult confronting the student, was posted on social media Sept. 5. It’s not clear if the person is a teacher.

In the video, the student asks, “Are you playing?” The staffer replies, “No, I’m not! Otherwise, I will call the police. I’m serious!” Later in the video the staffer threatens the student with suspension and calls him “a piece of s–t.”

After the video went viral, the school’s principal John Mensik sent out a letter to parents saying that the incident was being investigated and would be handled “in an appropriate manner.”

Democratic Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an indoor mask mandate in late August for schools across the state, and the state’s superintendent sent out a letter threatening repercussions for institutions that didn’t enforce the mandate, Mensik noted.

“The letter also stated that schools not following the mask mandate would become unrecognizable by the Illinois State Board of Education meaning that students could lose out on scholarship money, not be able to compete in IHSA athletic programs, and colleges could penalize students for not having an accredited high school diploma,” Mensik wrote.
