Sarah Palin's blunt outburst on 'smug' liberals as she issued warning to US electorate

Ms Palin is a former Governor of Alaska, and has been described as a “say-anything, gun-toting political neophyte”, unafraid to make her opinions known. An ardent supporter of former US President Donald Trump, Ms Palin herself had a tilt at coming to power in Washington as she was picked by Republican presidential candidate John McCain to run as Vice President in 2008. She would ultimately lose to the Democrats, who were spearheaded by Barack Obama, and his deputy Joe Biden.

This week, Ms Palin came under fire after she contracted coronavirus, demanding people wear masks, despite previous actions she had carried out during the pandemic.

Despite Mr McCain later admitting he made the wrong choice of running mate for the race, Ms Palin remained tied to politics – and continued to scrutinise the Democrats in power.

Although she failed to make a significant dent in the electorate with the Tea Party movement, Ms Palin continued to campaign on behalf of Mr Trump, who would surge to office after the 2016 US election.

But Ms Palin previously delivered a furious rant about political correctness, as she introduced ex-US President Ronald Reagan’s son Michael to a talk in 2009.

She praised Michael’s willingness “to screw the political correctness that some would expect him to try to adhere to”.

Michael has been known for his outspoken views on a variety of topics, but faced staunch criticism over some rants he has made.

And Ms Palin condemned the “self-proclaimed intellectuals, and the smug lobbyists who dominate Washington, and the liberal media”.

In the sensational speech, she even suggested Mr Obama was attempting to create a big government as a “tool of control”.

Politico reported Ms Palin as saying: “We need to be aware of the creation of a fearful population, and fearful lawmakers, being led to believe that big government is the answer, to bail out the private sector, because then government gets to get in there and control it.

“And mark my words, this is going to be next, I fear, bail out next debt-ridden states.

“Then government gets to get in there and control the people.”

After Mr Trump’s win, Ms Palin was questioned over the similarities between his victory and that of Brexit in the UK.

She drew a parallel, arguing that the “globalist” EU were finally being challenged by a “rogue” group of underdogs within the political spectrum.

The 57-year-old said: “Well, see, Great Britain and America, see how we’re hooking up now?

“We’re going rogue and saying, ‘The people are going to take back control of our governance’.

“We’re going to be able to say, ‘No, we don’t want this globalism’.

“We can’t be telling other countries, other nations, how to sweep their porches if we can’t sweep our own yet, so we’ve got to take care of what’s going on here within our borders, just like you (the UK) all have done, especially recently.”

When asked whether she saw something of Brexit in Mr Trump’s election, Ms Palin replied: “Yes, that’s exactly the movement.

“And when the vote came down, I was looking at it like, ‘Watch, this is going to come on over to the pond and and we’re going to have some of that just bleed on over into America and certainly we see that tonight.'”

More recently, Ms Palin came under fire after she told the public to wear a mask after contracting coronavirus.

She explained how “my case is perhaps one of those that proves anyone can catch this”, but this was deemed “rich” by Jimmy Kimmel.

Speaking on his Jimmy Kimmel Live show on Thursday, he said: “How [she contracted Covid], she doesn’t know.

“Sarah Palin lives in Alaska. You almost have to try to catch Covid in Alaska. It’s easier to catch a bald eagle than Covid in Alaska.”

Noting how Ms Palin had travelled “all the way to Texas” to back a business which was shutdown for violating lockdown measures in May, Mr Kimmel added: “But now that Sarah has herself been bitten by the bug, she changed her tune,” he said.

“I love these people who only believe in science when it happens to them. They only acknowledge that Covid is real after they get [it]. It’s like saying, ‘Now that I have been mauled by a bear personally, I realise that their claws and teeth are very sharp.’”
