Terrifying images of China’s Olympic Stadium laden with communist symbols and blasting authoritarian songs have emerged after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) celebrated 100-years since it was founded. President Xi Jinping appears throughout the celebrations as a god-like figure on enormous screens as hundreds of thousands of people clap and cheers in unison at their dear leader. The hammer and sickle, the symbol of communist solidarity, feature heavily alongside swathes of Chinese military personnel.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Greg Sheridan, foreign editor of the newspaper The Australian explained how the footage is a wake-up call for the West.
The Aussie stressed how the CCP is a “quasi-religious, nationalist movement” that has successfully married communism with “excessive and extreme nationalism”.
He added: “[The West] doesn’t understand the culture and history of the Chinese Communist Party.
“Which, I think, is best seen as a quasi-religious, nationalist movement which has state power.”

He added: “The idea that the Chinese communists don’t believe in communism is mistaken.
“Many Chinese, probably most Chinese, would rather have a more free life… they also wanted a less corrupt life and ethnic Chinese love democracy and it suits the orderly nature of Chinese culture.
“But it is also the case that the Chinese government has delivered certain key elements of its bargain with the people, namely constantly rising living standards.”
Mr Sheridan added how the CCP has “justified itself” by “marrying communism to a pretty excessive and extreme nationalism” as he analysed the footage and spoke of the success of the party in China.

He hammered: “These are crimes against humanity.”
The Chinese Communist Party was founded on July 1st 1921 by China’s founding father Mao Zedong alongside Chen Duxiu, Zhou Enlai and Li Dazhao.
