Kelly Clarkson dons low-cut polka dot dress as she attends the premiere of American Song Contest

Kelly Clarkson, Snoop Dogg and American Song Contest hopefuls gathered at Universal Studios in Los Angeles for the premiere of the new NBC show on Monday. 

The singer turned talk show host, 39, will host the show alongside rapper Snoop Dogg as they try to find the best original song written by an American. 

The show is based on the Eurovision Song Contest and will feature competitors from all 50 states as well as Washington D.C. and the five American territories: American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Clarkson, who won the first season of the singing competition show American Idol, attended the event in a low-cut black dress covered in white polka dots. 

She wore puffy see through sleeves that showed off her arms and a pair of white high heels. 

The Stronger singer added cherry red lipstick and smoky eyeshadow to her look, and her hair was parted in the middle and fell to the tops of her shoulders.

Her co-host Snoop Dogg hit the red carpet in a black and gold decorated tracksuit covered in intricate semi-circle designs. 

While the designs appeared mainly in a rusted gold, his black ensemble was accented with brighter gold stripes running down from each shoulder. His shoelaces were a matching color. 

The Gin and Juice rapper, 50, wore a large gold chain and a pair of reading glasses to the event.

While the hosts drew some attention at the event, the contestants were one of the major draws as they headed inside.

The When a Man Loves a Woman singer is representing Connecticut in the contest and showed up to the premiere in a simple black suit jacket and black pants over a dark blue shirt. 

His gray hair was cut short, and he added a pair of black shoes to the look.  

Metal man: Wisconsin representative Jake'O attended the event in a metallic silver suit. Underneath the blazer he wore a button-down black shirt that he left nearly completely unbuttoned

Wisconsin representative Jake’O attended the event in a metallic silver suit. Underneath the blazer he wore a button-down black shirt that he left nearly completely unbuttoned, exposing much of his chest to the onlookers. 

He added a silver necklace with a small pendant to his ensemble and a pair of white wingtip shoes.  

Wyoming’s Ryan Charles looked like a cowboy as he made his way across the red carpet. 

He wore a black shirt with with silver swirls on the neck and around his wrists. He added a large silver belt buckle and black pants teeming with fringe down the side. 

The Gettin’ Western singer wore a wide-brimmed black hat to the big event which did little to cover up his long curly tresses that fell down past his shoulders.

Arkansas competitor Kelsey Lamb looked angelic as she posed in a mainly white outfit.

Lamb’s ensemble included a long sleeve dress that trailed a little bit behind her as she walked. 

She added a wide-brimmed hat to the look and accessorized with a long necklace covered in turquoise stones.  

Mississippi’s own Keyone Starr wore a fiery ensemble to the big night. 

Starr rocked a pair of sequined red pants, matching leather boots and a red shirt with one long sleeve and one short sleeve. 

On top of all that she added a long wispy garment that covered up much of the left side of her body. She even had on red hoop earrings to complete her monochrome aesthetic.

Puerto Rico’s Christian Pagán decided on a leather look that included a hot pink jacket and tight black pants. 

He wore black combat boots and his chest was covered in thin silver chains that hung delicately from his neck. 

Pagán’s hair drew particular attention as it was jet black on the right but a light brown on the other half of his head.  

AleXa from Oklahoma looked out of this world in a futuristic silver and white ensemble that left little to the imagination. 

She wore long white boots that extended up to her ankles covered in frills and a white bodysuit similar to what Milla Jovovich’s character from The Fifth Element wore. 

Her hair was dyed a sea blue, and two white bows held it into a pair of pigtails.

Indiana’s contestant, UG skywalkin, wore a more down to earth outfit that consisted of a puffy yellow jacket, black pants and multi-colored sneakers. 

His dark hair sat in a tall mound on top of her head as he posed confidently, arms crossed. 

Rhode Island’s Hueston wore black pants, a black jacket and a wide-brimmed black hat to the performance. 

He added a black shirt covered in silver lines and shiny gray boots. His dark brown beard was bushy but groomed neatly.  

Iowa’s Alisabeth Von Presley opted for an all pink ensemble with a crop top and shorts combo that glittered from the numerous sequins attached to the garments. 

She wore high pink boots that came up past her knees and even her hair was dyed a hot pink.

Is four stronger than one?  Yam Haus, a group of four singers, represented Minnesota in the competition. The band consists of (pictured left to right) Seth Blum, Jake Felstow, Zach Beinlich and Lars Pruitt

And finally, one more act performed in the show’s debut episode, and they were also the only group to perform.

Blum wore a suit over multi-colored Hawaiian shirt underneath a black suit, and Felstow added his own colorful Hawaiian over a white shirt and white pants. Beinlich wore a brown and white shirt and black pants that ended above his ankles while Pruitt threw on a black blazer over a matching shirt, a white belt and green pants.   

The show will run for the next eight weeks before a champion is crowned. The eleven contestants competed for four spots with one being selected by the jury and the other three chosen by popular vote. 

Hueston was the first contestant chosen to move on to the semi-finals.
