Kathie Lee Gifford has revealed that her former Today co-host Hoda Kotb set her up on her first date two years after the death of her husband, Frank Gifford, saying it was the first time she went out with another man in 33 years.

The television star opened up about the loss of her husband and why she has chosen to keep her current relationship private during her interview on Wednesday’s episode of the Tamron Hall Show.

‘I hadn’t had a date in 33 years. It’s changed,’ Kathie Lee, 69,  said with a laugh, admitting that her first date after Frank’s death was ‘awful.’

‘Hoda set me up with something. And [he] was a nice guy, but he didn’t share my faith,’ she explained. ‘I wasn’t ready. Frank had been gone for two years, and we should never rush people on things like that, you know? And although I wasn’t grieving, I wasn’t looking.’

‘Frank had been ill for 10 years before he died. He had CTE,’ she explained. ‘He was one of the greatest football players that ever lived. And we knew very privately as a family that was fading in certain ways.

‘The irony is he’d had the best medical report the week he died in eight years. And he goes, “Well, I guess you’re stuck with me,” and he went off to the gym. I said, “I guess so!”‘

Kathie Lee, who has children, Cody, 32, and Cassidy, 29, with her late husband, shared that she was the one who found Frank after he had passed away.

‘One morning, I was getting ready for church, I came downstairs, and he was on the floor.’ she recalled. ‘I went, “Oh my God, he saw Jesus and Jesus took his breath away.” And if you’ve seen that, if you’ve gone there, who’d want to come home?’

The singer and author confirmed that she has found love again, but she was hesitant to say anymore.

‘I am in a relationship — I have been for quite a while now — that just is right for me at this time in my life,’ she said. ‘And I’m grateful for it, but I keep it private so it can stay special.’

‘We were a local show when I first joined him. I left Good Morning America to be with Regis ‘cause I didn’t want to read from a teleprompter,’ she said. ‘I wanted to be my own person, and fail or succeed, just as the person that I am authentically.’

Kathie Lee recalled being one of the first talk hosts to share the realities of motherhood live on air, saying she was single when she first started working with Regis in 1985.

‘I met Frank and then we got married and then I had our children a couple years later,’ she explained. ‘Regis’ children were already grown — they were like in teenage years. “Don’t talk about me, Dad. Don’t you, nuh uh, no.” He was muzzled and Regis did not like to be muzzled.

‘So he would talk about what movie he saw last night and Mr. Out About Town. I go, “I have mastitis and my nipples are killing me.” It was the first time [talking about motherhood on TV] and I got a little graphic about it sometimes because I’m an actress!’

‘We were each other’s best audience. And I just miss him every day,’ she shared. ‘I loved that man dearly. We became closer friends, Tamron, after we stopped working together. We worked together [for] 15 years and for the next 20 years, we just hung out as friends.’
