Jamie Dornan and Emilia Jones lead the British stars snubbed as the 2022 Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday.

The actor, 39, missed out on a nod for his portrayal of Pa, the father in Kenneth Brannagh’s semi-autobiographical film Belfast – which itself was nominated for eight awards in total.

Meanwhile, Aled Jones’ daughter Emilia, 19, failed to be recognised for her turn as Ruby Rossi in Sian Heder’s Coda.

Jamie’s omission from the Best Supporting Actor category will come as a double blow for the star after he missed out on a BAFTA nomination last week.

To add salt to the wound, Jamie’s co-star Ciarán Hinds bagged a nomination in the same category he was tipped for, with Ciarán recognised for his role as Pop the grandfather.

Other nominees in the Supporting Actor category include Troy Kotsur (Coda), Jesse Plemons (The Power Of The Dog), J.K Simonns (Being The Ricardos) and Kodi Smitt-McPhee (The Power Of The Dog).

Elsewhere, while Emilia won rave reviews for her portrayal of the only hearing member of a deaf family, it seems that her efforts were not enough to put her in line for an Academy Award.

The snub is somewhat more shocking considering the actress bagged a Best Actress in a Leading Role nomination for the BAFTAs just days before.

Young Jude Hill also failed to get a nomination for his portrayal as a young Kenneth Branagh in the hotly-tipped Belfast.

The 11-year-old was hotly tipped to be the youngest male Oscar nominee for 91 years, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.

Meanwhile, Irish actress Caitriona Balfe and Jude’s co-star joined her British neighbours in failing to be nominated despite being heavily tipped.

The Outlander star, 42, won critical acclaim for her depiction of Ma in Brannagh’s Belfast, but that success failed to result in a nomination.

Instead, she was snubbed in favour of co-star Judi Dench, who is a surprise name in the Best Supporting Actress category as she hadn’t been nominated in the lead-up to awards season unlike Balfe who has had nods for the Golden Globe Awards, the Critics Choice Awards, the SAG Awards and the BAFTAs.

The nominations for the 94th annual Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning with The Power Of The Dog and Dune earning the most nods.

Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan announced the nominations across 23 categories from an early morning event in Los Angeles ahead of the ceremony on March 27.

Following its eight nods at last week’s BAFTA nominations and its three wins at January’s Golden Globes, The Power Of The Dog leads the nominations with 12 nods, including Best Picture, Leading Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst and Director and Adapted Screenplay for Jane Campion.

Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast leads the way for the Brits with seven nods including Best Picture, Judi Dench for Supporting Actress (marking her seventh acting nomination and a chance at a second win) and a nomination for Branagh in the Director category.
