Tension in the Middle East are reportedly ‘running very high’ after Iran was blamed for the alleged hijacking of an oil tanker off the coast of Oman. The incident, involving the Israeli managed ship Asphalt Princess, occurred just days after a kamikaze drone strike hit the Mercer Street tanker killing two crewmen including a British man named Adrian Underwood. Iran expert Hamed Mousavi has warned the latest round of allegations between Tehan and Tel Aviv could spark a regional standoff.

Professor Mousavi told RT: “Tensions are very high right now.

“So throwing accusations without any evidence might actually lead to an escalation.

“Nevertheless it is an open secret that Iran and Israel have been engaged in a sort of like a shadow war in the past few years.

“Lately in the last few months, the two sides have been attacking each others ships.”

“But I don’t think that any side at the moment want war and nevertheless the future will really depend on whether Iran will be able to reach nuclear deal with the United States.

“History has shown us that the Israelis are actually very clever in sabotaging Iranian negotiations with the Americans.

“So if in fact, the Israelis are behind these red flag operations then I think that will sore the situation and it might lead to a breakdown of the negotiations.

“If the negotiations actually break down then I think that would really escalate the tensions between Iran and Israel in the region.”

Iran had denied any links to the recent incidents in the Gulf which officials dismissed as “hoaxes.”

The Iranian embassy in the UK wrote a series of posts on social media denying any involvement.

“There was no information confirmed about incidents. For us the issue is not over yet,” read one message.

Another added: “Beware of false flag against peoples on #Persian Gulf coasts.”
