New Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, who has also been dubbed the “hangman of Iran” by Israel for his spate of executions and human rights abuses while serving as a judge, has been warned of imminent attacks from Israel. He was sworn into government two days after winning the endorsement of the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, following his election victory in June and has promised to remove strict sanctions imposed by the United States. Benny Gantz, Israel’s Defence Minister, says the West has now “reached the point” where an attack on Iran is necessary. Israel warned that it was “ready” to strike Iran on Thursday when Iran’s new president was sworn in by the Iranian parliament in Tehran.

The Israeli Defence Minister warned: “Israel is ready to attack Iran, yes.”

“We are at a point where we need to take military action against Iran. The world needs to take action against Iran now,” he added.

Mr Gantz’s comments aimed to pressure the UK and United States to take a tougher stance on Iran that goes further than protests and sanctions.

It comes after an oil tanker was boarded by Iranian navy commandos this week, risking further inflaming tensions with the West.

Mr Raisi was sworn into government two days after winning the endorsement of the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, following his election victory in June and has promised to remove strict sanctions imposed by the United States.

Many Iranians protested Mr Raisi being sworn in yesterday due to his bloody past.

The Israeli air forces carried out airstrikes in Lebanon for the first time in seven years, in retaliation for a series of rockets fired across the border at Israel.

Lebanon saw the strikes as an “escalation” of hostilities while UN peacekeepers asked for Israel to hold back.

The Israeli Air Force took to Twitter yesterday to explain the two rockets fired at Israel.

The Israeli Air Force tweeted: “Earlier today (Thursday), rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory.

“In response… fighter jets struck the launch sites and infrastructure used for terror in Lebanon from which the rockets were launched.
“An additional target in the area from which rockets have been launched in the past was struck as well.”

Israeli aircraft often strike Palestinian militant targets in Gaza as well as suspected Hezbollah or Iranian targets in Syria.

Israel’s hostile attacks may cause further conflict and, as many believe Iran has been developing nuclear weapons, there is reason to be wary.

Iran’s nuclear weapons programme has been speculated about since they were enriching uranium “beyond civilian use,” to develop nuclear weapons.
