Hugh Sheridan shares a heartwarming Easter tribute to father Denis almost a year after his death: ‘I’m incredibly grateful for the time we shared’

Hugh Sheridan has shared their favourite prayer as a tribute to their late father, Denis Sheridan, who passed away nearly a year ago.

Hugh, 36, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, shared the Peace Prayer of St Francis under a number of personal photographs.

The photographs showed the pair on holidays in Europe along with Hugh semi-submerged in a pool in an artistic image.

‘Happy Easter. Eternally grateful for my family and all of you. My dear dad Denis left the world not even 11 months ago,’ Hugh wrote.

‘I’m incredibly grateful for the time we shared,’ they added.

Hugh then shared the prayer which contrasts mischief and remedy.

‘Help make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith,’ the famous prayer goes.

‘Divine mother and father, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.’

Hugh has been open about their upset following their late father’s death in May last year.

The actor posted an old video clip with their father to Instagram in November, with the pair singing Frank Sinatra’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin.

‘Six months today since Dad left the physical and became one with the universe,’ Hugh wrote in reference to the clip.

The Packed to the Rafters star then recalled a dream they had where Denis appeared.

‘I had a dream the other night, I knew I was dreaming and I was in the future, I asked my sister what year it was and she laughed and said ”it’s 2032”, it was so strange and so real,’ Hugh said.

I spotted my dad Denis (alive), amongst a crowd and thought ”wow they’ve learned how to bring people back!?!” I chased him but I lost sight, I was fighting not to wake up but, I did. It was so surreal.’

Hugh’s father Denis tragically passed away in May at the age of 76 from cancer.

He had been receiving palliative care at Mary Potter Hospice in North Adelaide.

The Logie-winning actor was incredibly close with their father, who was a prominent Adelaide swing singer and former Lord Mayor of Unley.

Denis’ final performance was in March, at a tribute show held in his honour at the Swing a Ding Den at Adelaide’s Arkaba Hotel.

Hugh joined him on stage for his swansong in touching scenes.
