Home cook uses pasta cannelloni tubes to whip up a delicious chocolate dessert

A home cook has wowed hundreds with her innovative take on the Italian cannoli dessert that she made using cannelloni pasta tubes. 

Melbourne mum-of-two Emilly, recreated the traditional Italian dessert with a pasta shell that’s usually packed with spinach and ricotta or beef. 

The mum simply fried the cannelloni tubes in oil and filled them generously with a decadent hazelnut praline chocolate custard.

To make the dessert Emilly first whipped up the chocolate filling. She created a toffee from scratch and then mixed toasted hazelnuts into it.

She let the praline set hard then blitzed it until it turned a smooth and runny paste-like consistency.

Emilly then created a thick chocolate custard with flour, egg yolks, milk, cocoa powder, butter and melted marble chocolate.

How to make homemade cannoli:

  1. Create a toffee from scratch and the mix toasted hazelnuts into it.
  2. Blitz the hardened praline until it turns a smooth and runny paste-like consistency.
  3. Make a thick chocolate custard with flour, egg yolks, milk, cocoa powder, butter and melted marble chocolate.
  4. Mix the hazelnut praline into the chocolate custard and allow it to set.
  5. Fry the cannelloni shells in hot oil and once they turn golden brown drain them.
  6. Pipe the rich chocolate filling into each shell and top each cannoli with a dusting of icing sugar to serve up and enjoy.

Once the homemade chocolate custard was ready she mixed the hazelnut praline into it and allowed it to set.  

She then fried the cannelloni shells in hot oil and once they turned golden brown she drained them and piped the rich chocolate filling into each shell. 

To finish the dessert she topped each ‘cannoli’ with a dusting of icing sugar to serve up and enjoy.

Her simple sweet treats were quick to receive likes and comments on Facebook from other foodies who shared how delicious the homemade dessert looks.
