An employee at a German hospital went on a stabbing rampage at work, murdering four patients and seriously injuring another, reports said.
The woman, 51, was detained after the victims were discovered around 9 p.m. Wednesday in several rooms at the Oberlin Clinic, a specialist orthopedic center in Potsdam near Berlin, police said.
The five victims were patients, some of whom had severe disabilities and required respiratory support, German newspaper Tagesspiegel reported.
“The victims showed signs of significant external violence,” police spokesman Thorsten Herbst said.
Herbst said the detained staffer was “urgently suspected” of the killings.
Police have not released information about her identity or a motive.
But law enforcement sources said the suspect had told her husband upon arriving home that she had killed people that day and he contacted police, Tagesspiegel reported.
The Oberlin Clinic released a statement on its website in the wake of the killings, according to German outlet Deutsche Welle.
“All our concern and sympathy goes to the relatives of those concerned,” the center said.
