Free prescriptions: Who is exempt from paying for NHS medication? – full list of condition

Recently, an open letter from Age UK and various medical bodies called on the Government to scrap its plans to hike the eligibility age for free prescriptions to the state pension age.

The group asserted that this decision would further disenfranchise older and vulnerable people in England who will now have to wait longer for vital medications.

Instead, the coalition of charities and health organisations are lobbying for the exemption list to be at the very least expanded or NHS prescription charges to be scrapped altogether.

Thorrun Govind, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s English Pharmacy Board chair, explained: “The proposal to raise the age at which people can access free prescriptions from 60 to 66 means that many more people will be affected by this tax on the sick at exactly the time at which they may be needing more medicines.
