A Florida woman says she was attacked by a shark who thrashed her around “like a fish” in a terrifying encounter while surfing in the ocean.
Adrienne Wikso, 64, said she was on her longboard when the bull shark grabbed her by the foot and “wouldn’t let go” near New Smyrna Beach on Friday, news station WESH reported.
“He was up above the water a long time. He was out of the water, thrashing, up in the air with me,” Wikso told the outlet.
“And he wouldn’t let go. And he started thrashing and shaking me and he was pulling me. He was trying to get away with me like I was a fish.”
She kicked the shark with her other foot and a pal pulled her to shore, WESH reported.
“I was bleeding really bad and [my friend] was in the trail, in the blood trail,” she said.
She was taken to the hospital, where she underwent a four-hour surgery for her foot injuries, WESH reported.
Though she’s expected to recover from the episode, Wikso said she’s unsure if she’ll ever go back in the water.
“I honestly don’t know. I’m not like one of those people who says, ‘I’ll be back. I got just… bit,” she told the outlet.
