Escaped monkeys seen swinging from trees at Cincinnati cemetery

A search is underway for several monkeys who escaped from a private collection in Cincinnati — where they were seen going bananas while swinging from trees at a cemetery, according to reports.

Police and volunteers were searching for the roughly five primates at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the city’s west after they escaped from Price Hill, WDTN reported.

“My mom thought I was crazy. I said, ‘Look, there’s monkeys out here,’” Alycha Tucker, who caught sight of one as she went out to get her cat, told the station.

“Then I heard it making the noises, not ‘ooh ooh aah aah’ stuff, but grunts, so I didn’t know what it was,” she said.

“I just stood there as my eyes adjust to pitch blackness and that is when I saw it, just standing there, taller than a garbage can, and its arms were real long hanging down and its arms are real skinny,” Tucker added.

An animal officer assisting in the search said monkeys tend to find a place to rest at nighttime.

Police said they reached out to the Cincinnati Zoo to help round up the simians, who were spotted around the area about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Fox 19 reported.
