Drivers warn of issues after DVLA yet to process 54,000 HGV licences: 'Not really trying'

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “The reports this week that a number of petrol stations across the UK have been forced to close due to a lack of fuel has caused some panic amongst drivers and queues have started to form on forecourts with drivers looking to stock up.

“The key point to stress is that it is not due to a shortage of fuel but rather the recurring issue of a lack of drivers on the UK’s roads.”

“The perfect storm of Covid, Brexit and the long-term problems of low pay, high hours and an aging workforce in the industry has caused the numbers of HGV drivers on UK roads to drop by 100,000.

“While we cannot control the political agenda, we can help advise fleets to do what is in their power during these crucial times.
