DI Ray star Parminder Nagra has revealed how George Clooney picked up the tab for her 30th birthday finner after running into him at a restaurant. 

Leicester-born Parminder, 46, who shot to fame in Bend It Like Beckham 20 years ago, had previously me the Hollywood star when she appeared in ER. 

Appearing on today’s episode of Lorraine, she recalled spotting the actor having drinks at the same restaurant as she celebrated with friends.  

He came over to chat to her and was ‘so lovely’, and at the end of the night when she went to pay, she was told the bill had been ‘taken care of’ by Clooney.  

The Oceans Twelve star is known for his generosity, and famously gave 14 friends who helped him before he was famous $1 million each in cash.

In November 2020, he confirmed a longstanding rumor that he gave 14 of his closest friends who supported him before be was famous $1million each in cash.

Clooney revealed that he invited his friends – a collective known only as ‘The Boys’ – to his house in 2013 and gave them each a suitcase containing the money.

Recalling her encounter with her fellow actor, Parminder said: ‘I had my 30th birthday and we were at a restaurant and he was there having drinks,’ she said.

‘He came over to say hi and sat there and was holding court and telling stories and being so lovely,’ she added.

‘I was staring at him, I couldn’t believe it.  It was incredibly special. At the end of the night when I went to go and pay the bill I was told it was taken care of. What a lovely guy. ‘

Parminder, who also worked with Clooney on ER, was asked by Lorraine if she had tried to be ‘cool’ when she met him on set. 

She jokingly replied: ‘It was quite embarrassing. We were professionals, of course. We weren’t smiling that much.’

The 46-year-old added: ‘Then we watched back what we had done. But it was George Clooney, what were we supposed to do?’ 

Parminder said that tonight’s episode of DI Ray is set to end on a cliffhanger.

The detective drama features the 46-year-old investigating a murder and uncovering a huge people trafficking operation along the way.

Now based in LA, Parminder told Lorraine it had been nice to come back to the UK to film.

Most of the filming took place in Birmingham, close to her hometown of Leicester and she was able to visit her family frequently at weekends. 

DI Ray is on ITV tonight at 9pm
