Cleaning tip: Lynsey Queen of Clean on getting bloodstains out of carpet – 'never' heat it

The number one most important rule when it comes to blood stains is to never use hot water. This is because of the specific chemical makeup of the stain.

“So cold water, washing liquid, white vinegar and swab it a little bit.

“Leave it for half an hour, come back, take a clean, white cloth and press down so you’re not pushing it around, press it.”

There are a number of protein-based stains Britons should never clean with warm water, especially on textile materials, such as clothes, carpets, and fabric furniture.

This is because the proteins will coagulate and stick to the carpet even at a low temperature.

Always using cold water is advised on these protein-based stains. They are:

  • Sweat
  • Urine
  • Baby food
  • Baby formula
  • Cheese
  • Gelatin
  • Mud

However, Lynsey did describe them as “the easiest sofa to clean” she has ever owned.

“I have velvet sofas, the easiest sofa to clean in my life,” Lynsey told Express.co.uk.

When cleaning it, never scrub at stains.

“No circles,” the former professional cleaner added, “because that will cause watermarks.”
