Forget chart-topping songs, pranks, and viral dance movies, the latest trend to take TikTok by storm sees users reaching for new heights… at least as far as their lashes are concerned. 

A newly-launched $28 mascara has quickly become the latest beauty product to skyrocket into the TikTok hall of fame, leaving thousands of users in awe with its lash-boosting abilities – with some claiming that it more than ‘doubled the length’ of their lashes after just a few layers. 

As well as boasting impressive lengthening abilities, the MAC Cosmetics MACStack Mascara has also earned plenty of attention for another reason: its ‘clump-resistant’ formula that the brand claims can be layered an ‘infinite’ number of times without ever causing clumps of product to form in the lashes. 

This bold claim prompted much skepticism from several TikTok users, prompting many to begin applying more than ten layers of the mascara at a time in an attempt to put the formula to the ultimate test.

The mascara, which took two years to create, comes in two varieties – the Superstack Mega Brush and the Superstack Micro Brush – with one featuring a larger brush, while the other offers a smaller, more delicate brush.  

According to MAC, ‘the magic’ of the mascara lies in its unique formula, which features a ‘breakthrough mix’ of Fibre Melt Technology, Vita Gel and Lash Flex Polymer, which helps to coat each lash completely without ever clumping or forming lumps. 

Thus far, videos posted using the hashtag #macstackmascara have racked up more than 51.1 million views, with commenters left stunned at the results of users’ trials. 

Massachusetts-based makeup expert and influencer Kelly Rose Sarno was one of the first TikTok stars to post about the mascara – sharing a video in which she documented her first test of the clump-resistant formula. 

The beauty pro, who has more than 623,800 followers on the platform, began her video by pointing out how hard-to-get the mascara has become, telling her fans: ‘When I tell you the lengths that I went to get this… it was almost embarrassing.’

She then went on to review the ‘super sleek’ black-and-silver packaging, before finally swiping on her first layer of the product. 

‘That was one of the easiest one coats I have ever done. Super simple, really easy, very amazing first coat,’ she said. ‘The formula is a wet formula so I’m giving it about 30 seconds to dry [before applying another layer].’

After swiping on the mascara for a second time, Kelly was left open-mouthed in shock, simply remarking: ‘Incredible.’  

Her third pass with the mascara brush prompted an even more stunned reaction from the online star, who applied the product to just one of her eyes in order to better demonstrate its impact on her lashes. 

‘This is absolutely wild. It looks like I have fake lashes. It literally looks like I have a band of fake lashes on,’ she remarked. ‘Look at how it just brushes right through, that is wild. 

‘This might be my new number one mascara. You can just keep putting it on. This is so good.’

Kelly’s incredibly positive review prompted several other influencers to put the MAC mascara to the test, including Mikayla Nogueira, a 23-year-old from Massachusetts, who boasts a staggering 10.8 million TikTok fans. 

Mikayla began her video by sharing a quick clip from Kelly’s post, while explaining that she had seen the mascara popping up in videos all over the platform and was somewhat cynical about just how impressed everyone seemed to be by the formula.

‘I have seen a million mascaras and never one that looks that good on everybody… And as Miss No Lashes here I feel like I’m a good person to test it!’ she said.

But any doubt she might have had about the formula appeared to disappear after she applied several coats to one eye. 

‘I’m really putting it on and it already looks really good. It looks so good, I’m so excited,’ she exclaimed. ‘Oh my god. I freaking love this mascara. Oh my god.’

Those comments were echoed by dozens of other makeup-loving influencers, all of whom seemed to be bowled over by the effects of the new mascara.   

Victoria Lyn, 26, from California, agreed with Kelly’s view that the mascara makes it look as though the user is wearing false lashes, remarking to her own followers: ‘One coat… looks pretty good, they’re fluffy. 

‘Coat two [creates] really good separation. I mean… like look at that lash, that looks really good. I totally get why this mascara is getting so much hype. 

‘It seriously looks like I have a false lash. This might be my new favorite mascara.’

North Carolina-based makeup artist Kaitlin Brandon, 22, was initially doubtful about MAC’s claims that the mascara was ‘infinitely’ buildable, but she too was soon won over by the formula. 

‘Can I really do an infinity number of layers with this mascara and have zero clumps? Lets find out,’ she said at the start of her video.  

‘Lets start with layer number one… that already gave me some volume but I want to see how many layers we can do.’

After applying multiple coats of the mascara, she concluded: ‘Honestly I am really loving this mascara. I think this is fire.’ 

Other stunned users said that the mascara ‘more than doubled the length of their lashes’ – with many also drawing a comparison between the results of the mascara and fake lashes.  

Several other TikTokers urged their followers to ‘run, don’t walk to MAC’ to lay their hands on the product, which, according to multiple users, has already sold out in a number of stores.  

Indeed, the viral excitement surrounding the mascara has prompted it to fly off shelves online, too, with Ulta selling out of the product online in a matter of weeks after its release.
