Amazon Prime Video set to produce their very first Australian feature film starring TikTok megastar Shuang Hu and American comedian Nathan Ramos-Park

Streaming giant Amazon Prime Video are making their first Australian feature film, Five Blind Dates, about a tea shop owner looking for love.

It will feature US comedian Nathan Ramos-Park and China-born Australian actor and TikTok star Shuang Hu, who also co-wrote the movie. 

Directed by local talent Shawn Seet (Storm Boy), Hu’s character is told by a fortune teller she will meet the love of her life on one of the next five blind dates she goes on.

Australian Variety reports that audiences can expect to see ‘an exploration of Chinese culture and family dynamics’ in the film, which will be made in Sydney and Townsville, Queensland.

Hu, who is also a model, rose to fame on Comedy Central’s Ronny Chieng International Student and has appeared in the SBS series Family Law.

Meanwhile, playwright and screenwriter Park has won accolades as a song writer and creative producer on Disney’s Club Mickey Mouse, where he scored a hit with his tune ‘When December Comes’. 

Produced by Sydney-based company Goalpost Pictures, which had recent success with romantic comedy Top End Wedding, Five Blind Dates follows 15 Australian projects already commissioned by Amazon Prime Video.

Among them is The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart starring Sigourney Weaver, a series written by Sarah Lambert and directed by Glendyn Ivin. 

It tells the enchanting and compelling story of a young girl, Alice Hart, whose violent childhood casts a dark shadow over her adult life. 

Turning to more light-hearted subject matter, the streaming service will produce ‘Class of ’07’ which was created by Kacie Anning.

The dark comedy revolves around an apocalyptic tidal wave that hits during the 10 -year reunion of an all-girls high school.  

The group of women must find a way to survive on the island peak of their high school campus. 

Amazon Prime were also behind the re-boot of Channel Seven’s beloved family series Packed to the Rafters, which was the first original scripted Australian drama series commissioned by the streamer. It debuted last September.
