Ten people were wounded in two mass shootings in Chicago Wednesday — just 12 hours apart, police said.

The first of two mass shootings occurred in West Garfield Park on the city’s West Side, where a gunman approached a group standing outside and opened fire, striking four women and a man, police said.

The victims, ranging in age from 18 to 34, were listed in good condition at hospitals, while one 34-year-old woman who was shot in the thigh refused medical attention at the scene, department officials said.

A male suspect fled the 4600 block of West Monroe after the barrage of gunfire. At least 22 evidence markers were placed at the scene, where city buses were rerouted as investigators responded, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Twelve hours later, five other people were shot in the city’s Gresham section on the South Side, where three gunmen hopped out of a silver car and started firing outside a food mart, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Four men and a woman between the ages of 27 and 50 were wounded, including three who were listed in critical condition, the newspaper reported.

None of the victims had succumbed to their injuries as of early Thursday and no arrests were made in the ongoing investigations, Chicago police spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli told The Post.

A description of the suspects in both shootings was not available, Bartoli said.

At least 31 shootings across Chicago in 2021 involved four or more victims, according to a Sun-Times analysis. The city is on pace to surpass last year’s total of 48 mass shootings, the newspaper reported.

Data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive reportedly shows Chicago has recorded the most mass shootings nationwide over the last five years. Its database defines them as involving four or more victims excluding the shooter, regardless of whether anyone died. Other researchers, according to the Associated Press, define mass shootings as four or more people killed.

“At any time at any place, anyone in Chicago can get hit,” Autry Phillips, who runs a community outreach center, told the Sun-Times. “We have shootings that are next to the Chicago Police Department, we have shootings that are next to schools.”

Wednesday’s mass shootings also marked the fifth time this year where two such incidents occurred in one day throughout Chicago, according to the Sun-Times.

“Mass shootings are becoming the norm,” said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, whose church is near where the Gresham gunfire occurred.

One exasperated woman told NBC Chicago she was searching for answers as she cleaned up her bloodied block following the afternoon attack.

“It’s a shame, it’s just a shame,” the Gresham resident said. “If you ask me, the police ride past every day. They don’t care.”

The latest statistics available show that 382 homicides have been tallied throughout Chicago as of Sunday — or five fewer than the same period a year ago. Some 1,688 shootings were recorded, down from 1,515 in the same span in 2020, according to the data.
